Ice Skating in NYC

There's nothing like gliding gracefully across the ice with the wind in your hair and the New York City skyline as your backdrop! Ice skating is fun, it's good exercise, and it makes for a very romantic winter date night. Manhattan boasts several great ice skating rinks - from the old landmarks like Rockefeller Center to the brand-new rink at Bryant Park.

Bryant Park Ice Skating

between 40th and 42nd Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues, (212) 661-6640

If you're looking for some ice skating options in midtown Manhattan, but want to avoid the lines and crowds at Rockefeller Center's Ice Rink, ice skating on The Pond in Bryant Park can be a good choice. Bryant Park's ice rink is nicely sized and if you have your own skates, it's free to enjoy skating in one of New York City's great parks. Skating and lockers are free, but you'll have to pay if you need to rent skates or if you want to check bags or need to buy a lock for your locker. No time limits (unlike Rockefeller Center where rental rates are per session).

Chelsea Piers Sky Rink

Pier 61, 23rd St & the Hudson River, NY, (212) 336-6100

Rockefeller Center Ice Rink

Located in the center of the complex of buildings between 47th and 50th Streets and 5th and 7th Avenues.

The rink typically opens Columbus Day weekend and stays open through early April. Skate rentals $8-9 and admissions are charge per session. Ice skating prices at Rockefeller Center are most expensive during peak holiday periods, and busiest at those times also. Early morning during holiday periods and weekdays before 4pm tend to be quieter times so time your visit appropriately to get the most skating for your money!

Wollman Ice Skating Rink (Central Park)

830 5th Avenue, NY, (212) 439-6900

Wollman Rink is another popular skating choice but tends to get crowded during peak times (especially weekends). Located off Central Park East between 62nd and 63rd Streets.
